Description

We’re looking for a Laboratory Supervisor to join our Mount Thorley team and support the Hunter Valley Business Manager in delivering reliable, high-quality production services to our clients. In this hands-on leadership role, you will guide and develop the Production team to ensure accurate sampling, timely analysis, and clear reporting that meets client expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and supervise daily laboratory operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Direct team activities to comply with SGS policies, procedures, and risk management practices.
  • Manage team rostering, payroll, and leave to align with production requirements.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to team members to develop technical and personal skills.
  • Oversee sampling, preparation, analysis, validation, and reporting processes.
  • Maintain and monitor the quality and compliance system, conducting scheduled and random audits.
  • Promote continuous improvement by reviewing processes, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing solutions.
  • Foster strong teamwork and collaboration within the branch and across other Hunter Valley teams.
  • Build and maintain positive client relationships, ensuring KPIs and turnaround times are consistently met.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to management, including production results and financial accruals.

Qualifications

To Be Successful You Will Have

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in coal laboratories.
  • Working knowledge of sampling, preparation, analysis, validation, and reporting.
  • Understanding of Quality, Compliance, and Training systems.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training or equivalent.
  • Strong safety awareness and risk management skills.
  • Competent in administration and reporting tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CCLAS.
  • Proven ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work under pressure.
