The Emerson Test & Measurement/National Instruments (NI) Transportation Business Unit (TBU) Customer Centric Solutions (CCS) Team is seeking to hire a Staff Systems Design Engineer (Electrical) to work on custom solution projects. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI engineering teams, customers, sales personnel, partners, and contract manufacturers to define, design, document, deploy and sustain NI systems tailored to meet specific customer requirements for turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate has experience and knowledge in electrical and electronic design and configuration of systems, as well as familiarity with NI hardware and software products. In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, and interface with integration partners, contract manufacturers and internal personnel to design, deploy and sustain custom solutions worldwide. This is a role within NI requiring daily interaction with customers, partners, NI Sales Teams, and Engineering Teams. The role will include: Interacting with a wide variety of NI customers, NI staff, external partners and suppliers in support of designing, implementing and sustaining of custom solutions Specifying and defining system configurations and electrical/electronic designs as part of turn-key systems and solution, including parts and component selectionDefining electrical interfaces within a system and designing related custom components and cablesPrototyping, testing, and deploying turnkey automated solutions in the Automotive industryTraveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives This position is intended to grow into a project technical leadership position including the following responsibilities:Defining and implementing project plans, managing milestones and holding reviews to ensure systems meet requirements and readiness for deployment Directing support personnel, managing project technical deliverables, guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolutionGenerating requirements documents, statements of work, and Bills of Materials Work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural group development environment Problem-solve effectively – identify technical issues and propose reasonable solutions Take initiative, and work independentlyAdapt quickly and thrive working on projects with changing needs and requirementsDrive tasks and lead projects to successful completion Learn applicable technology, systems, and productsStrong work ethic and drive to succeed Who You Are:You introduce new ways of looking at problems. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design, Electrical Engineering, or Test Engineering Design RoleUnderstanding of electrical engineering, electronics & computer architectures Familiarity with high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#) Demonstrated understanding of the following concepts and principles: Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment to meet system requirementsUnderstanding of schematics, wiring diagrams, and signal routingMeasurement methodologies and sources of measurement error Integration of hardware and software Bill of Materials creation and review Familiarity with CAD and electrical/electronic design tools Only U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 22 CFR §120) may be considered.
