Job Description

The NI ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions Team is seeking to hire an experienced Principal Systems Design Engineer to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, sales personnel, engineering teams, alliance partners, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design, deploy and sustain NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate has experience and knowledge regarding NI products and system level design. This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, and interface with alliance partners, contract manufacturers and internal personnel to design, deploy and sustain custom solutions worldwide. This is a high visibility role within NI requiring daily interaction with NI customers, NI Alliance Partners, NI Sales Teams, NI Engineering Teams, and Executive Management.In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:Interacting with a wide variety of NI customers, NI staff, external alliance partners and suppliers in support of designing, implementing and sustaining custom solutionsGenerating requirements documents, statements of work and Bills of MaterialsDefining and implementing project plans, managing milestones and holding reviews to ensure systems meet requirements and readiness for deploymentSpecifying, designing, prototyping, testing, and deploying turnkey automated solutions Directing support personnel, managing project technical deliverables, guiding technical decisions and driving field found issues to resolutionTraveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectivesWho You Are:You serve as a strategic partner to build, grow, and maintain profitable and long-lasting relationships with key accounts. You model collaboration across the organization. For This Role, You Will Need:B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering TechnologyMinimum of 8 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design Role or a Test Engineering Design RoleStrong understanding of electrical engineering, electronics & computer architecture Understanding of high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#) Demonstrated understanding of the following concepts and principles: Sources of measurement errorAppropriate selection of test and measurement instrumentation and equipmentUnderstanding of schematics and wiring diagramsIntegration of hardware and softwareBill of Materials creation and reviewFamiliarity with CAD and PCB design toolsStatistical analysis of data (Cp, Cpk, GR&R)Cable Harness DesignHands on use of schematic capture tools and PCB design toolsKnowledge in Component Supplier SelectionKnowledge in Compliance Certifications (CE, UL, TUV, Etc.)Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and InstrumentsHands on use of NI LabVIEW and Test StandUS Person (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 22 CFR §120) may be considered, ability to work on ITAR projects and qualify for DoD Clearances Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:Demonstrated ability to:Work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural development environmentProblem-solve effectively - diagnose technical issues and propose reasonable solutionsLead teams in test and measurement system designTake initiative, be a self-starter, and work independentlyPersistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completionQuickly learn applicable technology, systems, and productsStrong work ethic and drive to succeed Our Culture & Commitment to You:At Emerson, we prioritize a workplace where every employee is valued, respected, and empowered to grow.
