The ideal candidate will demonstrate a development-first mindset, with hands-on experience in building scalable backend systems and the ability to design and implement robust automation solutions across the application stack.The individual will play a key role in embedding quality into the development lifecycle, driving engineering best practices, and ensuring systems meet functional, non-functional, performance, and security requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to software development and quality engineering, ensuring high standards of code quality and system reliabilityDesign and implement scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks across API and UI layersCollaborate with engineering teams to ensure testability, performance, and security are incorporated into system designParticipate in software design and architecture discussions, providing input from a quality and reliability perspectiveDevelop and execute unit, functional, integration, and end-to-end testsDrive shift-left testing practices across the development lifecycleEnhance and maintain CI/CD pipelines, ensuring automated test execution and release validationPerform and contribute to code reviews, ensuring adherence to engineering standards and best practicesSupport performance engineering efforts, including analysis, tuning, and scalability validationEnsure adherence to secure coding practices and identify potential vulnerabilitiesContribute to operability engineering, including observability, monitoring, and system reliabilityTroubleshoot and resolve complex issues across systems, ensuring minimal disruption and high system availabilityContinuously identify opportunities to improve engineering and quality processesRequired Skills & ExperienceSoftware Development (Mandatory)Strong hands-on experience in Java developmentExperience building backend systems using Spring BootSolid understanding of:Object-oriented programmingData structures and algorithmsSoftware design principlesProven experience contributing to production-grade Java applicationsAbility to contribute across development and automation testing responsibilitiesTest Engineering & AutomationExperience in:API Testing (Postman or equivalent)API Automation using RestAssured (Java)UI Automation using Selenium WebDriver or PlaywrightStrong understanding of:Unit, functional, and integration testing (JUnit/TestNG)RESTful services, JSON, XMLAbility to design and implement:Integration, acceptance, and end-to-end automation testsSoftware Design & ArchitectureAbility to contribute to software design and architecture decisionsUnderstanding of building systems that are:ScalableMaintainableSecurePerformantAwareness of architectural patterns and best practicesPerformance, Security & ReliabilityExperience in performance engineering concepts, including system analysis and optimisationKnowledge of secure coding practices and vulnerability preventionUnderstanding of reliability engineering and operability principlesEngineering Practices & ToolingStrong experience with:Version control systems (Git)CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bamboo or equivalent)Code quality and coverage tools (Sonar or equivalent)Experience working in Agile development environmentsStrong collaboration skills with cross-functional teamsCore Engineering CapabilitiesStrong troubleshooting and debugging skills across distributed systemsAbility to work independently in moderately complex to complex scenariosConsistently applies engineering skills with growing autonomy and reliabilityAbility to contribute to team-level engineering improvements and mentoringPreferred / Good to HaveFull-stack development exposure (Frontend + Backend)Experience with UI frameworks such as:AngularReactExposure to cloud-based applications and distributed systemsExperience with in-memory data grids (e.g., Pivotal GemFire)Strong SQL knowledge (preferably Oracle DB)Exposure to monitoring and observability toolsKey Expectations from the RoleMust have a strong development background and not be limited to traditional testing rolesShould be flexible to work across:Software developmentAutomation testingUI validationExpected to drive a quality-first engineering cultureAbility to influence system design, architecture, and delivery practicesActs as a key contributor in complex problem-solving scenarios and supports broader engineering goalsCorporate Security ResponsibilityAll activities involving access to Mastercard assets, information, and networks comes with an inherent risk to the organization and, therefore, it is expected that every person working for, or on behalf of, Mastercard is responsible for information security and must:Abide by Mastercard’s security policies and practices;Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of the information being accessed;Report any suspected information security violation or breach, andComplete all periodic mandatory security trainings in accordance with Mastercard’s guidelines.
