Job Description

The Franchise Legal & Compliance Specialist supports the Legal function in managing legal and regulatory matters related to KFC’s franchise operations across Canada. This role ensures compliance with franchise laws, assists in the preparation and review of franchise disclosures, franchise agreements and related documents, and provides administrative support. The Franchise Legal & Compliance Specialist plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the franchise system and supporting the growth and development of the KFC brand through sound legal practices. Manages franchise disclosure process end-to-end, including required disclosure and annual updatesDrafts, reviews, and maintains franchise agreements, renewals, amendments, extensionsPrepares compliance documentation, including letters of concern, defaults and terminationsTracks key dates and obligations under franchise agreements (e.g., renewal deadlines, compliance milestones)Monitors changes in franchise legislation and advises internal stakeholders accordinglyPrepares legal correspondence, memoranda, and reportsDrafts all Non-Disclosure Agreements and Supplier Testing and Development AgreementsFiles and organizes legal documents, ensuring confidentiality and accuracyManages all legal invoices and oversees the legal budgetResponds to inquiries from franchisees regarding legal and compliance mattersAssists in resolving franchise-related matters under the guidance of legal counsel and development managersSupports the preparation of corporate filings and maintenance of corporate records Works closely with internal departments (e.g., operations, finance, real estate) to ensure legal alignment in franchise development and operationsLiaises with external counsel as needed Education/CertificationsRequired: Law clerk diploma, law clerk certification, or relevant work experience in lieu of formal education or accreditationExperience:Have 3+ years of experience managing franchise disclosureExercise strong organizational and document management skillsBe detail-orientedThrive in a fast-paced environment with a collaborative, can-do attitudeBe a self-starter who asks questions, seeks clarity, and drives projects forward independentlyCollaborate with cross-functional teams with a positive, solutions-oriented approachActively contribute to a strong culture that embodies Yum!’s Smart, Heart and Courage valuesBe a problem-solver who is comfortable with ambiguityWe’d prefer this role to…Have prior experience working for a franchisor or in a franchised business What makes KFC a great place to work?Our People. The expected hiring range for this role is $66,000 to $90,000 CAD, inclusive of base salary and target annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
