Job Description

We are looking for a strong Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for building core storage components for the next generation IAM Control Plane architecture. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) enables customers to secure their workloads in the cloud by providing authentication and authorization mechanisms to all of AWS. We enable our customers to manage their credentials and access policies in the AWS cloud. We operate some of the largest distributed systems in the world, processing billions of transactions per second world-wide. The IAM Control Plane teams are working on the next generation architecture for IAM aiming to improve the scaling, and availability of the system. This team will be responsible for designing, building and delivering on core storage fleet management components, including workloads for building fleets, remediating failures, managing data replication, providing disaster recovery capabilities and similar. Utility Computing (UC) AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. Key job responsibilities - Defining and delivering on long-term product and architecture strategy for AWS Identity and Access Management services. - Operational ownership of low-latency, high-availability Authentication and Authorization services used by all of AWS globally. - Recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, retaining and performance management for a best-in-class engineering team. - Communicating development, quality, operations, and system performance to senior leadership - Ownership and continuous improvement of all operational metrics and automation tools for your team’s software. - Executing against project plans and delivery commitments; Managing day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment About the team AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) is used by all AWS customers to secure their workloads in the cloud by providing scalable, resilient, and highly available authentication and authorization mechanisms. IAM control plane, comprised of many services, workflows and tools collectively hosting a large number of APIs, enables AWS customers to manage users, roles, credentials, policies etc. IAM data plane sits in the runtime path of virtually every single request that comes to AWS, making it one of the most scalable systems on the planet. AWS IAM authorizes billions of requests per second with high availability while maintaining a single digit millisecond latency. Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience (experience, 3 years)
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience (experience, 7 years)
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience (experience, 3 years)
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience (experience, 8 years)
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations (certification)
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy (experience)
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers (experience)
