Consider joining the Duke Energy team, where you'll find a friendly work environment, opportunities for growth and development, recognition for your work, and competitive pay and benefits.“Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy”Radiation Protection Technician II or Radiation Protection Technician IIISummaryRadiation Protection Technicians are responsible for providing radiological protection of the work force during routine and post-accident conditions, including surveys, dose assessment, and conservative decision making.Responsibilities and DutiesPerform surveys of rooms and plant areas to document and identify changing radiological conditionsPerform radiological job coverage of maintenance and operations activities to ensure regulatory and procedural requirements are metBrief Radiation workers on radiological hazards of the work areaCalculate air sample results and evaluate radiological conditions against procedures, to ensure expected conditions have not been exceededParticipate in Emergency planning drills, including response to contaminated injured workers, fission barrier degradation scenarios, and releases of radiological hazards to the environmentParticipate in the stations corrective action program, to identify and correct conditions in the plantImplement regulatory required programs, such as radioactive material/waste shipping, instrumentation calibrations and source checks, and dosimetry issuanceBasic/ Required Qualifications Radiation Protection Technician II Two year degree (Associate of Science) in radiation protection, or nuclear navy training, or equivalent education or training programs. A minimum of three years of experience in lieu of a degreeTwo years of experience in a radiation protection, chemistry or computer science careerRadiation Protection Technician III2 yr. related associates degree or Navy Nuclear Power Program and ELT1 year of experience in Radiation Protection / 1 year of technical related training1 year of nuclear experience.Desired QualificationsAssociates degree from a college accredited by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operators (INPO)Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or a related fieldNavy ELTCertified by the National Registry of Radiation Protection TechniciansMeets ANSI 3.1 requirements for a Power Reactor Radiation Protection TechnicianDemonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organizationDemonstrated effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skillsAbility to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned workDemonstrated the ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilitiesDemonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes, regulations, responsibilities, and work environmentsSpecific Requirements:Willing to relocate to within 75 minutes of nuclear plant in order to meet requirements of Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.Must obtain Nuclear Unescorted Access AuthorizationRespiratory physicalAbility to lift and carry 50 poundsAbility to meet RP essential job functions (climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, ability to wear protective equipment, etc.)This role requires the use of weight rated equipment, (Ladders, Harness, etc) with max ratings ranging from 275lbs to 325lbs, in order to meet the essential functions of the job.Travel Requirements5-15%Relocation Assistance Provided (as applicable)YesRepresented/Union PositionNoVisa Sponsored PositionNo. This is not a Visa Sponsored Position.
