Transmission systems and components deliver high voltage electricity from generation facilities (power plants, wind, solar, etc.) to the customer distribution system (lines/substations that feed homes and businesses). Interns will work directly with experienced technicians to assist them with and learn more about the construction and maintenance activities required to keep our grid reliable and to safely meet customer needs.Duties and ResponsibilitiesClearly understand the importance of company safe work practices and safety rulesBasic understanding of the Human Performance Tools and requirements Basic understanding of the isolation of substation and line equipment and grounding practicesDemonstrates good verbal and written communications skillsBasic understanding of electrical drawings (substation equipment schematics and power system drawings)Basic understanding of NERC compliance and the importance for accurate data and timely completion of assigned workBasic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skillsDevelops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical orderBasic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics systems Exposure to Transmission and Distribution system switching activitiesDevelop a basic understanding of AC and DC basic principlesDemonstrate the basic ability to operate bucket, digger derrick truck and other areal devicesDevelop a basic understanding of Power Grid Operations construction and maintenance standardsBasic/ Required QualificationsCurrently enrolled and pursuing a two degree in Engineering Technology or related fieldGraduation date must be after August 2027Must have a valid State Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a CDL Class A Driver’s LicenseAdditional Preferred QualificationsStrives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performanceDevelops positive working relationships and effective oral and written communication skillsSupports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionallyDemonstrated ability to pass panel review by meeting or exceeding requirements for step progression Software skills including word process, email, spreadsheets etc.Basic written and oral communication skillsWorking ConditionsField Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period.
