Work Schedule: Given the collaborative and complex nature of this work, this role is onsite full time in Irvine, California with flexibility to occasionally work from home as needed.How you’ll make an impact:The Patent Prosecutor will:Manage and develop a global patent portfolio protecting Edwards’ innovationCollaborate with R&D, marketing, and other business functions to establish and execute an IP strategyReview and evaluate invention disclosures for patentabilityPrepare and prosecute patent applications, direct outside counsel in the prosecution of applications outside the United StatesEvaluate competitive threats and freedom to operateAdvise and educate internal clients regarding IP-related issues, including new developments in patent and trade secret laws and policiesWhat you'll need (Required):Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark OfficeAdmission to a State BarJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law schoolA minimum of 5 years of legal experience, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications at a top-tier law firm and/or in house legal department or examining applications at the USPTOWhat else we look for (Preferred): Experience working in a lifesciences or engineering fieldUndergraduate or higher degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, biology, chemistry, or related fieldExperience working with life sciences technology (e.g., biology, chemistry, or medtech)Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skillsProven successful project management skillsStrict attention to detailAbility to interact professionally with all organizational levels and proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of managementAbility to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environmentAbility to exercise considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to achieving themAbility to represent leadership on sections of projects within a specific area interfacing with project managers and teamAbility to develop innovative solutions to complex problemsAligning our overall business objectives with performance, we offer competitive salaries, performance-based incentives, and a wide variety of benefits programs to address the diverse individual needs of our employees and their families.For California, the base pay range for this position is $145,000 to $205,000 (highly experienced).The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience). Required Qualifications

  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (experience)
  • Admission to a State Bar (experience)
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA accredited law school (degree)
  • A minimum of 5 years of legal experience, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications at a top-tier law firm and/or in house legal department or examining applications at the USPTO (experience, 5 years)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a lifesciences or engineering field (experience)
  • Undergraduate or higher degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, biology, chemistry, or related field (degree in higher degree in mechanical engineering)

Responsibilities

  • The Patent Prosecutor will:
