Job Description SummaryCollaboration with multidisciplinary set of engineers to design and analyze mechanical components and systems for experimental Hypersonic, aero-thermal test rigs. To accomplish the given tasks, you must be proficient in developing mechanical designs using CAD and applying engineering principles to analyze the integrity and/or performance of the designed components and subsystems. You should have an excellent understanding of the engineering process, leading proof-of-concept ideas towards validated solutions. Communication and documentation are critical as you will often need to prepare slides (or other documents) to present to the team, whether it is to describe detailed designs or to discuss project progress.Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities:Execute the design, analysis and evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures and program / product requirements.Cross functional knowledge of high-speed fluid dynamic, mechanical systems and thermal response and application to rapid development of prototype hypersonic propulsion systemsDevelop mechanical systems from proof-of-concept to final manufacturable component using 3D CAD Perform analyses ranging from classical textbook methods and 1D spreadsheet calculations to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations to predict structural, thermal, and/or fluidic behavior of systems/components.Prepare drawings to manufacture prototypes or components of an experimental setupDocument and communicate assumptions, inputs and proposed solutions to multidisciplinary teams for reviewSupport validation of new designs and technologies through benchtop or larger-scale testingPrepare presentations and slides to communicate ideas and/or progress on projectsAbility to work well in with Integrated Product Teams to create and verify novel design solutions that meet established program objectives and requirements (technical, cost, schedule) Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or universityStrong understanding of engineering principles and applying them to technical tasksDemonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems including stress analysisSkilled in mechanical design using 3D CAD Siemens NX or equivalent Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPointUS citizen Desired Characteristics5+ years design and analysis experience. Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or universityAbility to perform Thermal/Structural analysis via classical calculations and 1D toolsSkilled with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and performing simulations in ANSYS for thermal-structural analysis Experience high speed aerospace propulsion industryUnderstanding of compressible flowKnowledge of prototype manufacturing development processes including Additive Manufacturing (AM), and DFM, DFA and DFAM techniques Knowledge of GD&T and application to engineering drawingsProblem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker​ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security ClearanceThe base pay range for this position is $115,000 - $152,000 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. Required Qualifications
