Job Description SummaryPosition Hours: This role follows a 9/80 schedule; Monday - Thursday hours are 7-4pm, every other Friday is an 8 hour shift, and off the next Friday. Overtime is uncapped.Job DescriptionFacilities:Toolroom machine tools such as: lathes, boring mills, grinders, drill presses, shapers, slotters, milling machines, jig borers, saws, filing machine, surface plate, ordinary band tools, power hand tools, arbor press, layout tools, floor-operated crane, ordinary and precision measuring tools, sine bar, air gage, buttons, comparator, optical gages etc.; gas torch, lapping stones, etc. Including NC and CNC Programmable Machines using Conversational Programming and/or MasterCam CAD/CAM SolutionsDesired Background:NYS Toolmakers Apprentice/Journeyman or 10yrs Experience as a CNC Toolmaker/Machinist in a Commercial Setting.Materials:Cast, formed, rolled, forged, fabricated parts of ferrous and non-ferrous metal, carbon, tool, alloy steels, carbides, copper, brass, aluminum, non-metallic materials such as: Textolite, Garolite, plastics, lubricants, gases, pre-machined components and subassemblies, finished parts including vendor items, etc.Working ProcedureMake, fit, and assemble complex electrical and mechanical precision instruments, equipment, Jigs, fixtures, etc., performing all machining and assembly operations.Secure job assignment and minimum instructions for complex work, facilities and diverse materials. Plan sequence of operations, method, procedures, setup. Select and obtain tools, facilities and materials. Working from sample pieces, rough sketches, drawings or verbal instructions, make, fit and assemble a variety of complex precision instruments, equipment, jigs, fixtures, dies, etc. Set up and operate all toolroom machine tools, determining holding methods and devices, select and grind tools, select and set feeds, speeds, depth of cut, etc. Lay out and machine a variety of detailed parts and pieces or direct others in their machining. Assemble instruments, equipment, jigs, fixtures, etc., making intricate lineups using a variety of precision measuring tools. Drill, team. dowel, tap, bolt, press, etc. parts in place, file, fit, scrape, polish, etc. obtain proper lineup or assembly on mating or moving or inter-related parts. Assemble, Line up and fit complex gear trains, cam actions, linkages, levers, etc. Harden parts as required. Make complicated toolroom calculations involving trigonometry and shop math. Assemble instruments, equipment, jigs, fixtures, etc. other equipment as necessary and prove out its proper functioning, making necessary modifications or adjustments.Perform operations such as: drill, tap, bore, turn, face, thread, mill, shape, lot, grind, lay out, assemble, stone, fit, scrape, dowel, file, harden, etc. to close tolerances and finishes on the most complex instruments, equipment, jigs, fixtures, etc.Keep facilities, material and work area orderly, exercising care in their use, maintaining general good housekeeping practices and conforming to all safety and quality requirements.Secure job assignment and minimum instructions for complex work, facilities and diverse materials.Plan sequence of operations, method, procedures, setup.
