Job DescriptionShift Flex Fab Laser Engineer/Shift Leader – 2nd shift (2pm-10pm)Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. Primary applications are focused on quick turnaround, no tooling, low volume and high mix across multiple vehicles programs and other non-automotive applications. Flex Fab is situated in the greater metro-Detroit area close to culture and outdoor recreation - as well as great neighborhoods and schools. What You’ll Do Responsible to lead & mentor hourly team on daily basis towards daily production operation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).What You'll Do (Responsibilities):Knowledge on multiple sheet metal forming and assembly production processes such as press brake bending, laser cutting, punching, spot welding, laser welding, arc welding and MIG/TIG weldingPlan and Manage Production using Industry 4.0 tools (Manufacturing Execution Software)Use 2D/3D design and programming tools for laser cutting, punching, bending and welding for sheet metal fabricationSupport equipment and process troubleshooting across cutting and bending process in conjunction with maintenance teamCommunicate effectively across all shiftsChampion of allocated BPD activitiesDiscuss weekly production plans with production controlAdjust schedule as needed to solve production problemsAllocate manpower as needed for each press line; plan release for trainingMaintain shift safety by audits, observation and follow up of all incidentsMaintain and improve machine up time. Prevent recurrence of breakdown causesEnsure TPM program is on trackDiscuss major downtime causes with maintenance weekly and request corrective actionSign off standardized work charts. Agree with all shiftsLead shift meetings for SPQRCEReport shift status to the Area ManagerCoach and mentor Group LeadersEnsure GMS is being followedUnderstand and comply with the terms of local and national labor agreementsEnsure cost controls achieve budget needsSupport area manager to resolve manpower issues in conjunction with unionLiaise with customers for quality problems and co-ordinate countermeasuresRotate shifts as neededYour Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):5+ years of manufacturing or fabrication experience (conventional + new technologies)Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceLeadership experience in a union environmentKnowledge in multiple sheet metal forming and assembly production processes such a press brake bending, laser cutting, punching, spot welding, laser welding, arc welding and MIG/TIG weldingExperience in using 2D/3D design and programming tools for laser cutting, punching, bending and welding for sheet metal fabricationExperience with using 3D CAD software tools such as Teamcenter Visualization, NXExperience in launching new products or technology while dealing with ambiguityHigh level of analytical ability and interpersonal skillsHighly developed oral and written communication skillsAbility to work overtime as neededWhat Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):5+ years of manufacturing of fabrication experience (conventional + new technologies)Experience working with Trumpf Technology in a production or pre-production environmentKnowledge in industry 4.0 tools focused on production managementExperience in running high-mix and low volume operationKnowledge of and coaching experiences in Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related areaExperience working in a union facility GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
