Job DescriptionWork Classification:Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.The Role: As a Software Engineer at GM, you will be a part of the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) team, working in the Electrification Propulsion domain both for EV and HEV products, focusing on optimal hybrid engine speed / torque selection, optimization for energy efficiency, charge mode determination, drive unit sensors and actuators management, among other things.You will design, implement, and test software solutions rolled out to all of GM’s EV and Hybrid portfolio based on Vehicle Intelligent Platform (VIP) and Software Defined Vehicle (SDV 2.0) electrical architectures. Your work will contribute directly to GM's vision of a world with ZERO Crashes, ZERO Emissions, and ZERO Congestion.What You’ll do:Produce or deliver software for embedded controls systems in the electrification propulsion domainDesign, development and implementation of Physics and Controls requirements to continuously improve software for mechatronic controls and diagnostic strategies as well as controller communication.Test & demonstrate software functionality & readinessSupply common solutions across all GM owned softwareDocument requirements for design solutions and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionalityUtilize automated Continuous integration Continuous deployment (CI CD) build environments, test tools, benches, and vehicles to verify functionality of the feature at the unit, integration, Controller, System and Vehicle levelTeam Collaboration:Function as an inclusive Agile Scrum team member to deliver software solutionsCoordinate and collaborate with systems, calibration, hardware, software quality assurance engineersHave a voice in software planning events, share ideas & learnings and help teach/train othersYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):BS in Engineering – Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or BS in Computer ScienceMinimum 2+ years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area – embedded controls softwareProficient in MATLAB, Simulink, C, C++ programmingExperience with Jira and agile software development frameworkExperience with software testingExperience with Auto Code GenerationKnowledge of test scripting using PythonEmerging levels of interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as requiredEmerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environmentHigh level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed.Customer-centric focus with solution developmentWhat Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)MS in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer or Computer Science5+ years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area – embedded controls softwareKnowledge and experience with automotive serial data communication like CAN, Ethernet communications protocolknowledge of Software architecture principles and best practicesknowledge of embedded operating systems, controller communication and diagnostics.
