But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.KBR’s Science and Space Division is seeking a Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer to support the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center’s EROS Calibration/Validation Center of Excellence (ECCOE) project. The Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer for Landsat Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) activities is responsible for executing the Sensor Geometric and Spatial Characterization and Calibration of the Landsat 1-9 satellites. Core ResponsibilitiesEnsure the geometry of Landsat data are continually and promptly monitored, measured, and calibratedDevelop and verify tools and algorithms to assist in Landsat data and instrument calibrationsCharacterize the geometric performance of the Landsat instruments to ensure that all geometric requirements are being metReport on the quality of Landsat data as requiredPresent Landsat geometry status at assigned meetings and regular updates for the Landsat Program ManagementAnswer user services questions regarding Landsat dataProcess data for public relations requests that come from USGS Project ManagementProvide geometric data quality expertise to the Landsat Project anomaly resolution teamsDevelop and verify tools and algorithms and perform qualitative analysis that results in improved Landsat data productsWrite and publish white papers and journal articles as neededPresent analysis results at professional conferences and workshopsParticipate in peer reviewsPerform other duties as assigned by the Landsat Cal/Val Team LeadQualificationsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, System Characterization, Signal Processing, System Calibration, Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Mathematics, or Satellite Systems3+ years of progressive experience in an engineering roleDesired SkillsExperience in writing SQL queriesProgramming skills in Python, IDL, Matlab, and in C or C++Knowledge of spacecraft and spacecraft instrument dynamics and characteristicsKnowledge of spacecraft and instrument requirementsKnowledge of image/signal processing and statistical analysis fundamentalsKnowledge of map projectionsAbility to develop image and signal processing techniques and toolsAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writingAbility to think independentlyAbility to handle complex multitask environmentsFamiliarity with configuration management principles and proceduresKnowledge of geodesy, system calibration/characterization, satellite systems, and remote sensingThorough understanding of view angle geometries and/or orbital geometryKnowledge of cloud data processingPreference will be given to anyone with experience in satellite ground systems, remote sensing data capture, processing, archive, distribution, and scientific applicationsWork LocationThis position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD, and is offered in a hybrid remote/onsite work environment. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, System Characterization, Signal Processing, System Calibration, Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Mathematics, or Satellite Systems (degree in master)
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in an engineering role (experience, 3 years)
  • Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the geometry of Landsat data are continually and promptly monitored, measured, and calibrated
  • Develop and verify tools and algorithms to assist in Landsat data and instrument calibrations
  • Characterize the geometric performance of the Landsat instruments to ensure that all geometric requirements are being met
  • Report on the quality of Landsat data as required
  • Present Landsat geometry status at assigned meetings and regular updates for the Landsat Program Management
  • Answer user services questions regarding Landsat data
  • Process data for public relations requests that come from USGS Project Management
  • Provide geometric data quality expertise to the Landsat Project anomaly resolution teams
