The team applies advanced chemical, optical, and surface characterization techniques to solve complex materials challenges across semiconductor manufacturing and research.Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly motivated summer intern to contribute to advanced spectroscopy and nanoscale characterization projects focused on semiconductor thin films, surfaces, interfaces, and process-induced material changes. Working alongside scientists and engineers in Corporate Labs, the intern will develop and apply spectroscopy-based characterization methods, analyze complex materials datasets, and gain experience in experimental design, data analytics, and semiconductor materials research within an industrial laboratory environment.ResponsibilitiesConduct experiments using advanced spectroscopy and microscopy techniques to characterize semiconductor thin films, surfaces, interfaces, and related materials.Collect, process, analyze, and interpret spectroscopy data, including photoluminescence, fluorescence lifetime, Raman, and AFM-IR datasets, and develop visualization workflows to communicate results.Correlate spectroscopic signatures with material properties, process conditions, surface states, and defect behavior while collaborating with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners.Use AI-Enabled tools, where appropriate, to support literature reviews, data analysis, coding, technical documentation, and presentation preparation.Maintain laboratory documentation and safety standards while delivering a validated characterization workflow and presenting project results through a final technical report and presentation.Minimum QualificationsCurrently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (junior standing or above), Master's degree, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.Basic knowledge of spectroscopy, microscopy, materials characterization, or semiconductor materials.Hands-on experience with at least one analytical technique such as fluorescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, or a related characterization method.Experience using data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, Origin, or similar software.Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with photoluminescence, Raman, AFM-IR, FTIR, or other advanced spectroscopy techniques.Research experience involving semiconductor materials, thin films, surfaces, or interfaces.Experience with data analysis, curve fitting, image analysis, machine learning, or related computational methods.Experience applying AI-Enabled tools to scientific research, data analysis, technical documentation, or workflow optimization.Demonstrated curiosity, creativity, initiative, and strong technical presentation skills.As a world leader in the semiconductor industry, Micron is dedicated to your personal wellbeing and professional growth. Required Qualifications
