OverviewWe are at a defining moment for Microsoft to lead the market in helping small and medium enterprise (SME) customers accelerate their Frontier transformation—leveraging our differentiated portfolio and global partner ecosystem.The Director, GS&O Communications role sits within the SME&C Global Strategy & Operations (GS&O) Executive Office and reports directly to the Chief of Staff. This role is responsible for shaping and driving the mid- and long-term strategic narrative, while building an integrated communication strategy that connects all channels into a cohesive, high-impact storytelling engine.This leader will translate business strategy into clear narratives, ensure consistency across executive, field, and partner communications. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, storytelling excellence, and cross-org orchestration.ResponsibilitiesStrategic Narrative LeadershipThis role requires a strategic communications leader to help frame our Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy in market, with high empathy for a field sales audience to help translate strategy into highly impactful communications and connected workstreams.Translate complex business strategy into clear, compelling, and differentiated storytelling for internal and external audiencesUnderstands, segments, and targets audience needs and adapts communications strategies accordingly (e.g. executive messaging, field communications, partner engagement, and external storytelling).Integrated Communication StrategyDevelop and drive a comprehensive SME&C GS&O communication strategy that connects executive messaging, field communications, partner engagement, and external storytellingEnsure consistency of voice, message hierarchy, and narrative across all channels and touchpointsRecommend and operationalize the most effective channels and formats for different audiences and prioritiesExecutive & Leadership CommunicationsPartner closely with senior leadership to shape key messages, presentations, and communication momentsTranslate business priorities into clear executive-level messaging that drives alignment and action across the organizationSupport key forums (e.g., leadership meetings, global events, major announcements) with strong narrative coherenceCross-Org OrchestrationDrive alignment across marketing, sales, partner, and field teams to ensure a unified storyCollaborate with global and regional teams to scale narratives effectively while allowing for local relevanceServe as a central connector across stakeholders to drive execution of strategic communications initiatives Storytelling & Content DevelopmentLead development of high-impact narratives, messaging frameworks, and core content assetsGuide storytelling across campaigns, executive platforms, and internal communications to reinforce strategic prioritiesEnsure all communications connect back to business outcomes and reinforce Microsoft’s differentiationMeasurement & OptimizationDefine success metrics and track effectiveness of communication strategiesUse insights and feedback to continuously refine narratives, channels, and tacticsEnsure communications efforts are data-driven and aligned to business impactQualificationsRequired/minimum qualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experienceAdditional or preferred qualifications6+ years experience supporting senior executives in an executive communications role4+ years experience in technology, AI, cloud, or partner ecosystemsKnowledge of small medium business market dynamicsEffective storytelling and narrative-building capabilities with the ability to influence across complex, matrixed organizations Experience working with or advising senior executives Communications IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
