OverviewThe PALM Team (Proactive Alert Lifecycle Management) is part of Microsoft Security’s Identity division, focused on reducing time to detect (TTD) and time to notify (TTN) for service incidents across critical identity platforms. We build intelligent systems that proactively detect, triage, and communicate outages—empowering service owners and incident managers to resolve issues faster and more transparently. We are seeking a Principal Engineering Manager to be part of the team that leads the development of tools that streamlines incident investigation and response. We leverage machine learning to help on call engineers for better incident mitigation. We are deeply embedded in Microsoft’s AI transformation, applying large language models to simplify incident workflows and reduce cognitive load during live site events. Within Microsoft Entra Edge & Quality team, this team focuses on delivering a platform for AI-assisted incident triage and mitigation. The team leverages our historical corpus of outages and top architectural risks and connects the two to reduce time to mitigate and prevent outages altogether. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.ResponsibilitiesLead a team responsible for assisting Microsoft engineers to resolve incidents and outages faster via use of agents and AI and promptly and accurately informing Microsoft's customers of any impact to services they use.Develop systems that correlate change logs (from a simple deploy intent of a single service to very granular events where hundreds of thousands of machines receive unsupervised updates) to ongoing incident impact.Reduce time-to-mitigate and increase engineering focus time by building runtimes that auto-triage and auto-mitigate reported incidents and warning signals from telemetry systems.Champion our approach of New Production Function where both development and operations are re-imagined with the availability of agents and the surrounding ecosystem. Qualifications Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.Relevant industry experience in software engineering. Experience as a People Manager, leading teams of software engineers. Experience in your career history as a hands-on engineer working with distributed systems.
