OverviewMicrosoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Storage Engineer to Architect and optimize our enterprise storage infrastructure in support of Silicon Development. This role is pivotal in ensuring the availability, performance, scalability, and security of storage systems that are critical to EDA tool simulations and workflows. The candidate will possess deep technical expertise across On-Premises and Cloud SAN/NAS storage technologies, replication strategies, backup and recovery solutions, and performance tuning for high-throughput, low-latency environments. This global role requires close collaboration with Operations and Silicon Design teams to gather workload forecasts, analyze usage patterns, and ensure the efficiency and reliability of storage services. Continuously monitor storage performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks while planning for future growth. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including silicon design, CAD, operations, and infrastructure engineering, to align storage solutions with evolving business and technical requirements. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for storage architecture, operational procedures, and compliance policies. Driving technical execution and mentoring other engineers to build team capability. Ensure adherence to data governance, compliance, and security standards, including encryption, access control, and audit readiness. Support backup and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity, availability, and rapid recovery for critical workloads. (preferred) Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
