Job Description

Morgan Stanley Human Resources is seeking an experienced Strat/Engineer in New York to build and own internal HR applications, data services, and workflow solutions that improve how HR leverages technology, data, and automation to drive smarter workforce decisions. This Vice President role partners closely with senior business leaders, HR, and Finance to build scalable solutions that improve how HR operates and delivers insight to the business.Role OverviewAs an HR Strat/Engineer, you will serve as a hands-on product builder and technical owner for applications used across your assigned HR area. You will design, build and own user-facing tools and supporting data services. You will combine deep technical capability with strategic thinking — using software and data engineering, automation, and modern tooling to deliver products and reshape how workforce and operational data are modeled and consumed by senior leadership.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, test, and deploy internal HR applications and tools with user interfaces, business logic, workflow, and dataLead core HR process cycles (e.g., compensation, workforce planning, talent reviews), providing end-to-end technical and analytical support across planning, execution, and governanceOwn the full product and development lifecycle, from discovery and requirements through architecture, implementation, and ongoing enhancementDevelop backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations that connect HR applications to enterprise data platforms and source systems using Python, SQL, Snowflake, and other approved enterprise technologiesPartner with senior business leadership, HR, and technology teams to translate workforce and operating needs into product requirements, technical designs, and prioritized roadmapsApply software engineering practices including version control, code review, automated testing, deployment controls, and observabilityEvaluate and deploy emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, AI agents, workflow automation) to enhance HR’s analytical and operational capabilitiesDay-to-Day FocusDevelop and maintain production-grade HR applications and reusable services, with clear ownership for reliability, performance, security, and user experienceCreate intuitive end user interfaces and workflow experiences for HR processesIntegrate applications with governed HR and workforce data, implementing validation, access controls, auditability, and appropriate handling of sensitive informationWork directly with users to prototype solutions, gather feedback, prioritize enhancements, and drive adoptionImprove application architecture and development practices, and stay current on cloud, software engineering, data platform, and AI capabilities relevant to HRWhat You’ll Bring to the role:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or another quantitative discipline; advanced degree preferred6+ years of relevant professional experience, including hands-on delivery of software applications, internal tools, or workflow products used by business stakeholdersExperience with cloud platforms (Snowflake, Azure, AWS) is an advantageStrong analytical mindset with ability to synthesize data from multiple sources into clear insights and recommendationsStrong Python and SQL development skills, with experience applying Python in production applications, services, or data workflowsExperience with web application architecture, APIs, source control, testing frameworks, and modern software development practicesStrong understanding of data governance, controls, and model validationStrong communicator who can translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders and turn ambiguous business problems into working productsComfort operating across HR domains and partnering with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environmentComfort operating across HR domains and partnering with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment; visualization experience is useful when embedded within broader application solutionsWHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MORGAN STANLEY: At Morgan Stanley, we raise, manage and allocate capital for our clients – helping them reach their goals. Required Qualifications

Responsibilities
