Marshals and administers assets in smallto medium-sized probate estates and taxabletrusts.2. Decides all substantive questions arising withinthe estate, including tax elections, use of tax reserves,disposition, valuation and collection of assets, raisingof cash, resolution of liabilities, audits, and litigation.3. Functions as the decision point for virtuallyevery estate issue that arises in asset management,tax compliance, tax planning, fundings, distributions,and tax audits. Articulates the logic of thesedecisions to all appropriate parties.4. Works with internal tax support, co-fiduciaries,and outside counsel to consider all tax electionsand determine the most appropriate tax reporting.5. Enables preparation of tax returns (estate,gift, generation-skipping, fiduciary, and personalincome tax) through locating and marshalingassets, arranging for valuation, quantifyingexpenses, and securing and reviewing financialrecords.6. Approves all tax returns and signs estate taxreturns. Oversees preparation and filing of allpertinent court documents.7. Advises investment division of all pertinentcircumstances related to cash requirementsof estate and investment objectives of beneficiaries.8. Coordinates the balancing of account requirementsand customer needs during the estate settlementperiod. Ensures that appropriate communicationof investment decisions occurs between the bankand interested outside parties.9. Ensures that all fiduciary requirements andrestrictions pertaining to investments are observedduring the settlement process.10. Establishes and maintains strong relationshipwith beneficiaries responding to their needs andexplaining issues that arise in the estate. Educatesclients on bank products and services, emergingissues, and regulatory/tax changes.11. Cultivates relationships for expanded businessopportunities with the bank (personal trust, NorthernTrust Securities, investment management, privatebanking, etc.).12. Plans, reviews, and implements all fundingsand distributions including coordinating the inputof co-fiduciaries, beneficiaries, investment division,tax division, and others. Reviews all accountingdocumentation pursuant to fundings or distributions.13. Oversees special tasks, including sale of realestate or family business interest, disposition ofqualified plan assets, coordinating response toestate tax audit, and facilitating beneficiaries''credit requests.14. Coordinates discussion and review of technicaltax, investment, and legal issues using outsidecounsel, in-house legal or tax counsel, and senioradministrators as resources in reaching a decision.Knowledge :Knowledge of estate planning and tax laws, trust,fiduciary income, investments, real estate, basicaccounting, trust operations, and current issueswithin the field such as generation-skipping andenvironmental liability usually acquired throughformal education in law or related field and workexperience is required to implement estate plans.Analytical and organizational skills are requiredto translate complex client problems into concreteaccount situations when processes are notestablished. Negotiating skills are requiredto mediate conflict.Experience :Minimum 5 years experience in estateadministration or personal trust, with exposureto legal, tax, investment, and operational elements.Work AuthorizationApplicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
