Job Description

As a Software Developer 3 (IC3) in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), you will design, develop, and operate highly scalable, secure, and reliable cloud services. You will work with senior engineers and architects to build distributed systems that power Oracle Cloud while taking ownership of well-defined service components from design through production operations. Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain cloud-native services and microservices.Build highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant distributed systems.Participate in software design reviews and contribute to technical discussions.Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code.Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call rotations.Analyze system performance and implement improvements for scalability and reliability.Collaborate with Product Management, QA, SRE, and partner engineering teams.Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.Contribute to operational excellence through monitoring, automation, and documentation.Continuously improve engineering practices, tooling, and development processes.Required Technical SkillsStrong programming skills in Java, Go, C++, Python, or a similar language.Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals.Experience developing REST APIs and microservices.Knowledge of concurrency, multithreading, and asynchronous programming.Familiarity with Linux systems and networking fundamentals.Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.Understanding of cloud computing concepts and service-oriented architectures.Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern development practices.Preferred QualificationsExperience operating production cloud services.Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or container orchestration.Familiarity with public cloud platforms (OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP).Experience with observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing).Understanding of security best practices, authentication, and authorization.ExpectationsAn IC3 engineer is expected to:Technical ExecutionIndependently deliver medium-sized features and enhancements.Break down problems into manageable technical tasks.Produce clean, maintainable, and production-ready code.Identify and fix production issues with minimal guidance.OwnershipOwn one or more service components.Drive features from design through deployment.Take responsibility for operational health of owned components.Participate in incident response and postmortem activities.CollaborationWork effectively with cross-functional teams.Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly.Participate actively in design and code reviews.Mentor interns and junior engineers on day-to-day engineering practices.Operational ExcellenceBuild automation to reduce operational toil.Improve monitoring, alerting, and service reliability.Participate in on-call rotations and production support.Continuously improve service availability and performance.Success IndicatorsA successful IC3 engineer consistently:Delivers high-quality features on schedule.Demonstrates ownership of production services.Writes reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code.Makes sound technical decisions with limited supervision.Resolves production issues efficiently.Contributes positively to team engineering culture.Earns trust through technical competence and execution.
