Job Description

The Senior Business Development & Sales Manager sits within Tesla’s Energy Team and is responsible for driving complex, high-value opportunities from early engagement through to closed deals. You will own the full commercial lifecycle, strategy, government relations, customer engagement, multi-party negotiation, risk allocation, and executive deal approval, while ensuring consistency with Tesla’s global sales standards and playbooks.As a senior member of the team, you operate with significant autonomy across multiple workstreams and geographies. You are expected to shape commercial strategy, mentor more junior team members, influence cross-functional stakeholders (Legal, Product, Finance, Delivery, Energy, etc.), and continuously improve Tesla’s commercial processes and contract frameworks. Prior experience closing sophisticated, project-financed or multi-year commercial agreements in energy, infrastructure, automotive, or adjacent capital-intensive industries is highly valued.Demonstrated ability to navigate bankability requirements, complex risk profiles, and multi-stakeholder environments is a strong plus.We are looking for someone with an exceptional work ethic, a collaborative and low-ego mindset, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and constantly evolving environment. ResponsibilitiesLead end-to-end commercial negotiations for multiple large, complex energy storage deals (EPC, equipment supply, long-term service agreements, financing-related structures, and strategic partnerships).Own deal strategy and commercial positioning; develop creative structures that balance Tesla’s risk appetite with customer and financing requirements.Identify commercial, technical, delivery, and bankability risks early; design and negotiate effective risk allocation and mitigation strategies.Drive development and continuous improvement of Tesla’s standard contract forms, playbooks, and commercial tools in partnership with global Legal, Finance, and Sales Operations teams.Manage complex internal and external stakeholder landscapes (including government relations) to achieve timely deal close-out and clean hand-off to Delivery/Operations.Prepare clear, concise deal parameter packages and present them to senior leadership for approval.Contribute to pipeline health, forecasting accuracy, and continuous process improvementRepresent Tesla externally with C-level and senior decision-makers at customers, partners, and financing institutions.RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Finance, or related field (advanced degree a plus).7–10+ years of progressive experience in business development, complex sales, commercial negotiation, or contract management, with a track record of closing multi-million to multi-hundred-million dollar deals. Domain know-how in the energy storage field is a big plus.Proven ability to lead multi-threaded negotiations involving legal, technical, financial, and operational stakeholders.Strong commercial acumen and understanding of risk allocation, bankability, project finance concepts, and contract structures.Excellent communication, influencing, and executive presence skills; comfortable interacting with and presenting to senior Tesla leadership and external C-level audiences, including government.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority workstreams simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and deliver under tight timelines in a dynamic environment.Highly driven, solutions-oriented “can-do” attitude with personal values aligned to Tesla’s mission.Willingness to travel as required and to operate effectively across time zones and cultures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Finance, or related field (advanced degree a plus). (degree in business)
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in business development, complex sales, commercial negotiation, or contract management, with a track record of closing multi-million to multi-hundred-million dollar deals. Domain know-how in the energy storage field is a big plus. (experience, 10 years)
