As the Senior Environmental Specialist, you'll serve as the site's primary environmental subject matter expert and responsible environmental compliance professional, providing technical leadership and strategic guidance to maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permits, and Thermo Fisher standards.You'll lead site environmental programs covering air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, pollution control systems, permitting, regulatory reporting, and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS). You'll serve as the primary site contact for environmental regulatory agencies, support inspections and audits, and evaluate new processes, capital projects, and Management of Change activities for environmental impacts and permitting requirements. You'll partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Utilities, Maintenance, Development, and other functions to integrate environmental requirements into site operations and drive continuous improvement.Key responsibilities include managing environmental permits and compliance reporting; maintaining air emissions inventories; overseeing hazardous waste and wastewater compliance; monitoring pollution control equipment; conducting environmental training; supporting emergency response; and representing the site during regulatory inspections and agency interactions.REQUIREMENTSAdvanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in environmental program management within manufacturing, laboratory, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated environments strongly preferredPreferred Fields of Study: Environmental Science, Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related fieldDemonstrated expertise in environmental regulations, compliance, permitting, and regulatory reporting, including air emissions, wastewater, and hazardous wasteExperience managing environmental permits and serving as a primary interface with federal, state, and local regulatory agenciesExperience with air emissions calculations, emissions inventories, pollution control systems, and environmental compliance monitoringExperience evaluating new processes, capital projects, and operational changes for environmental impacts and regulatory requirementsExperience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental compliance auditsStrong knowledge of hazardous materials and hazardous waste managementProven ability to develop and deliver environmental training programsStrong project management, technical problem-solving, and program development capabilitiesExcellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across functionsProfessional Engineer (PE) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferredWastewater operator and emergency response qualifications or ability to obtain applicable certifications preferredProficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental/EHS management systemsAbility to work in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments, wear required PPE, and conduct facility inspections

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in environmental program management within manufacturing, laboratory, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated environments strongly preferred (experience, 6 years)
  • Preferred Fields of Study: Environmental Science, Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field (experience)
  • Demonstrated expertise in environmental regulations, compliance, permitting, and regulatory reporting, including air emissions, wastewater, and hazardous waste (experience)
  • Experience managing environmental permits and serving as a primary interface with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (experience)
  • Experience with air emissions calculations, emissions inventories, pollution control systems, and environmental compliance monitoring (experience)
  • Experience evaluating new processes, capital projects, and operational changes for environmental impacts and regulatory requirements (experience)
  • Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and environmental compliance audits (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of hazardous materials and hazardous waste management (experience)
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver environmental training programs (experience)
  • Strong project management, technical problem-solving, and program development capabilities (experience)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification preferred (certification)
  • Wastewater operator and emergency response qualifications or ability to obtain applicable certifications preferred (certification)
