These systems are mission-critical,high-volume, and event-driven, operating at scale across AWS.We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to design, deliver,and support Java-based, cloud-native services. In this role, you will own complex featuresend-to-end, influence technical direction within the team, and help raise the bar for codequality, reliability, and operational excellence.This is a hands-on individual contributor role with significant ownership and mentorshipexpectations, but no formal people-management responsibilities.Your Role AccountabilitiesDesign, build, and maintain Java backend services using Spring BootOwn delivery of complex backend features, from design through production supportBuild and evolve event-driven and asynchronous systems using AWS messagingservicesDesign and maintain RESTful APIs, service integrations, and internal platformcapabilitiesLeverage Amazon SNS, SQS, and DynamoDB to build resilient, scalable distributedsystemsDeploy and support backend services across multiple AWS regions, ensuringavailability, resiliency, and fault toleranceParticipate in architectural discussions and influence technical decisions within theteamReview code regularly, setting expectations for quality, maintainability, testing, andcorrectnessMentor Dev 2 and junior engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairingParticipate in on-call rotations and lead investigation and resolution of productionincidentsIdentify and reduce technical debt while improving system performance, reliability, andoperabilityDocument designs, decisions, and operational considerations to improve team clarityand velocityQualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience5+ years of professional experience developing backend applications in Java5+ years of hands-on experience building and operating services using SpringBoot (or similar Java frameworks)Experience designing and operating service-oriented or microservice architecturesin productionStrong working knowledge of SQL databases, including data modeling, queryoptimization, indexing, and transactional behaviorProven ability to independently deliver complex backend features through design,implementation, and production supportStrong understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and backendengineering best practicesExperience working in agile, collaborative engineering teamsHands-on AWS experience, including:Amazon SNS (event publishing and fan-out) preferredAmazon SQS (queue-based and asynchronous workflows) preferredAmazon DynamoDB (NoSQL data modeling and access patterns) preferredExperience deploying, operating, and supporting applications across multiple AWSregions preferredExperience operating Spring Boot services in AWS production environments preferredFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployment practices preferredExperience supporting production services through on-call rotations preferredFamiliarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting for distributed backend systems preferredHow We Get Things Done…This last bit is probably the most important! Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, skill set, experience, and/or performance. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $114,100.00 - $182,600.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros. Discovery provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and sick time and vacation.This position is open for an existing position vacancy.
