Job SummaryThe Technician IWSS is an essential team member of our Hospital Services team. The TM will be responsible for collecting and receiving waste from hospital personnel. Waste should be inspected for acceptance according to WMHS waste protocols. This team member will partner closely with their supervisor to ensure that all waste remains in compliance. II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Separates waste streams into appropriate categories for treatment or disposalSolid wasteRMWRecyclingHazardousConfidentialOperates compactors and/or shredders as requiredUnload waste from incoming vehicles. Separates non-autoclavable waste to be incineratedStage waste in area and/or properly stack waste for scanning in the Bio track system for proper recordkeeping purposesScan waste carts for radioactivity and other adverse materialsLoad treatment equipment with waste for processing and/or properly package waste for transport off site. Operates RMW waste treatment equipmentWash and decontaminate waste carts manually and/or operate tub wash unit insuring the wash unit is operating properly. Removes clean tubs from wash unit, inspects tubs and stacks for re-useDecontaminates vehicles cargo-carrying portion, reloads assigned re-usable tubs and insures cargo-carrying portion of vehicle does not have free liquid on the floorMake simple adjustment or repairs such as realigning belts, replacing grinder teeth and/or repairing containers, escalating major repair issues to mechanicMaintains a clean environment through housekeeping program. Ensures spills cleaned up, floor is dry, and debris not on floor, etc., are addressed immediatelyGreets hospital personnel in a professional and friendly mannerMay or may not perform the followingPerform collection services throughout the hospitalInteracts with patients and hospital staff in professional mannerShift leader responsibilities as needed: i.e.: staffing, proper safety policies and programs are followed; complete shift required documentation; keep manager informed of any pertinent issuesNotifies management of waste flow issues on hospital floorsAssists management in scheduling collection and documenting locationsPerform other duties and responsibilities, as assignedIII. Qualifications A. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (accredited) equivalent1 year of Experience, preferably in warehouse, environmental services or related fieldThis position requires on-site presence at WMHS customer locations and compliance with all mandatory immunization requirements imposed by such customersB. As part of the ongoing employment requirements, the successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing—including pre‑employment screening, post‑incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing—in accordance with government regulations and company policies. V. ScheduleStart Time: 5am & 1pm Rotating Shifts M-F, then Off every other weekendJohn Hopkins Hospital Schedule is subject to change to meet customer needs.VI. PayThe expected base pay range for this on-site position is $19.75 per hour. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
