Key takeaways

  • A teacher resume is read for three things first: the level and subject you teach, your teaching qualification (B.Ed, D.El.Ed or an integrated degree) and your TET or CTET status. Put all three on page one.
  • The CTET Information Bulletin we read says the CTET qualifying certificate is valid for life, that 60% or more counts as a TET pass, and that Paper I is for classes I to V and Paper II for classes VI to VIII. Write the paper and year, not just “CTET qualified”.
  • Government recruitment is a match against a written list. The KVS and NVS notification we read sets, for example, 50% marks, a teaching degree, CTET and an upper age limit for each post. Your resume should make that match easy to check.
  • For college posts the benchmark is different: the NTA UGC-NET bulletin we read sets 55% in the Master’s (50% for some categories) for Assistant Professor eligibility, with no upper age limit for that route.
  • State only classroom outcomes you can show on paper. Never put student names or photos of children on a resume.

Most pages for “teacher resume format” are Pinterest boards, Scribd uploads and template sites that give you a layout and no idea what a principal, a state board or a recruitment agency actually checks. This guide starts from what CBSE, KVS, NVS, DSSSB, NTA and PIB publish, then gives you copy-ready samples and a free checklist to test your own resume.

What a teacher resume needs that other resumes do not

A software resume is judged on projects. A teacher resume is judged first on whether you hold the qualification the post requires, then on what and whom you have taught. Three things set it apart.

  1. A qualification chain. Percentage in the subject degree, the teaching degree, and a teacher eligibility test. The KVS and NVS notification we read asks for all of these for PRT, TGT and PGT posts, in different combinations.
  2. Level, board and subject. “Teacher” could mean Class 2 EVS or Class 12 Physics. Class range, board (CBSE, ICSE, a State board, IB or Cambridge) and medium of instruction tell the reader what you actually did.
  3. Verifiable paperwork. Government hiring runs on certificates. The KVS and NVS notification says shortlisted candidates bring self-attested copies of certificates supporting age, qualification, experience and category. The resume should match them exactly.

Teacher qualification rules you should know before you write a word

No single government page tells you how to write a teacher resume, but several official documents tell you what a teacher in India must hold. Knowing them tells you what to put first.

NCTE sets the minimum, and a TET is part of it

CBSE’s Annexure-I circular for affiliated schools says the Right to Education Act, 2009 lets an academic authority notified by the Central Government lay down the minimum teacher qualification, and that the Government named the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for this. The circular says NCTE’s 2014 regulations set the minimum qualification for teachers up to class XII, and that NCTE also makes passing a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) essential for classes I to VIII. We could not open the NCTE regulations themselves, so we cite them only as CBSE describes them.

CTET: what the bulletin says

The CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin from CBSE says:

- Eligibility to appear is as notified by NCTE (and the recruitment rules of the appropriate government, KVS or NVS where relevant). Being allowed to appear does not mean your eligibility has been verified; the recruiting agency does that finally.
- Paper I is for a person who intends to teach classes I to V, with five 30-mark sections: Child Development and Pedagogy, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Language I and Language II.
- Paper II is for classes VI to VIII, and the bulletin has you choose Mathematics and Science or Social Science. Anyone who wants both levels sits both papers.
- All questions are multiple choice, 150 marks in each paper, with no negative marking.
- Quoting the NCTE notice of 11 February 2011, a person who scores 60% or more is considered TET pass.
- The qualifying certificate is valid for life for all categories, there is no limit on attempts, and a qualified person may appear again to improve the score.
- Mark sheets and eligibility certificates are issued digitally in the candidate’s DigiLocker account, digitally signed, with a QR code that can be scanned to verify them.

The lifetime rule is recent. CBSE’s public notice of 21 June 2021 says NCTE’s letter of 9 June 2021 replaced the earlier “maximum of seven years” with: validity “unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government, would remain valid for life”. That wording matters, because a State government can notify differently for its own TET, and we did not read any State rule. If you hold a State TET, check your state’s current notice.

Who must hold CTET or a TET

The same bulletin says CTET applies to schools of the Central Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools and others) and to schools under the administrative control of several Union Territories including NCT of Delhi. Unaided private schools may choose to consider it. State-run and aided schools consider the TET conducted by their State Government. For schools affiliated to CBSE, the bulletin says it is mandatory for teachers appointed from 6 March 2012 to teach classes I to VIII to qualify CTET or a TET. It also says qualifying does not give a right to a job, only meets one eligibility condition.

What KVS, NVS and DSSSB actually ask for: PRT, TGT, PGT

We read the joint KVS and NVS Recruitment Notification 01/2025 and DSSSB Advertisement 05/2025 for Assistant Teacher (Primary). They are examples of how a government employer writes the qualification, and your resume should be easy to hold against a list like this. Your own notification may differ, so read it.

PostQualification we readTET askedUpper age we read
PRT (KVS)10+2 with at least 50% and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or 10+2 with 50% and a 4-year B.El.Ed, or 10+2 with 50% and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)CTET Paper INot exceeding 30 years

Assistant Teacher, Primary (DSSSB)Senior Secondary with at least 50% and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or equivalents listed in the advertisement; also Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi or English passed at Secondary levelCTET (CBSE)Not read
Source: KVS and NVS Recruitment Notification 01/2025 (KVS posts shown) and DSSSB Advertisement 05/2025 (Assistant Teacher, Primary, Directorate of Education), read 6 Oct 2026. Summaries, not the full rules: relaxations, subject conditions and special-education routes are in the notices.

Four details to carry into your resume:

- Percentages are part of the rule. Both documents state marks. Show yours for 10+2, graduation or Master’s as relevant, and the teaching degree.
- Subject conditions. The KVS and NVS notification sets for some TGT posts that the subject was studied as a main or elective subject for a stated number of years in graduation. Name your graduation subjects, not only the degree title.
- Teaching-medium proficiency. The KVS and NVS posts we read ask for proficiency to teach through Hindi and English. If you can teach in both, say so in a line.
- Reservation relaxations. The notices allow up to 5% relaxation in qualifying marks for certain reserved categories. Your caste or category certificate belongs in your document file, not at the top of the resume.

The KVS and NVS notification also says posts like PRT, TGT and PGT are filled by a two-tier written exam followed by an interview, with 85% and 15% weightage to Tier-2 marks and the interview respectively. The resume does not change that score. It does help you speak consistently when document verification and the interview happen. The DSSSB advertisement warns that candidates without the essential qualification exactly as in the recruitment rules need not apply, and says supporting documents are sought at dossier stage. Both are good reasons to keep resume and certificates identical.

Resume format by teacher type

The same one-column layout works for all of these. Only the lead section and the proof change.

Editorial advice built on the official documents read above. There is no official national teacher resume format, and nursery, pre-primary, private and international school rules vary by school.

College Assistant Professor: UGC-NET

The NTA UGC-NET June 2025 bulletin says candidates who secured at least 55% (without rounding off) in a Master’s or equivalent from a UGC-recognised university are eligible, and 50% for OBC (non-creamy layer), SC, ST, PwD and third-gender candidates. Candidates awaiting their Master’s result may apply but are admitted provisionally, and must complete the Master’s with the required marks within two years of the NET result. The bulletin says there is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor, and that those who qualify are governed by the recruitment rules of the concerned university, college or State government. So, for a college post, show your Master’s percentage, the NET subject and year, and your Ph.D. status if any. Read the university’s own advertisement for what else it asks.

ITEP and integrated degrees

PIB reported that the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) was launched in 57 teacher education institutions from the 2023-24 session, as a four-year dual-major degree (B.A. B.Ed, B.Sc. B.Ed or B.Com. B.Ed), initially in pilot mode, with admission through the NTA’s National Common Entrance Test. The KVS and NVS notification we read lists a four-year integrated degree with at least 50% marks including a B.Ed component from an NCTE-recognised institution as one route for TGT posts. We did not see ITEP named in that notification, so write your degree exactly as your certificate says, and check the advertisement for the route you are using.

Section order for a teacher resume

A principal or an HR desk reads fast and checks facts against your certificates. This order works for both school and government applications.

One page or two?

We found no official rule on length. Our advice: one page for a fresher or under 3 years, two pages at most if you have several schools, senior classes and training. Cut anything that is not about teaching.

Photo and declaration

We found no official requirement for either. Government forms and some school applications ask for a photograph and a signed declaration, so follow the application form or advertisement. For a resume uploaded to a portal or emailed, a photo is usually unnecessary, and the declaration adds nothing a signed application does not.

How to show B.Ed, D.El.Ed, CTET and State TET

Write the qualification the way it appears on the certificate, with the awarding body and year, and keep each on its own line so a scan finds it. For eligibility tests, name the exact paper, which matters because Paper I and Paper II open different levels.

qualification and eligibility lines, copy and edit
QUALIFICATIONS
B.Ed, [University / College], [year], [percentage]
M.Sc Mathematics, [University], [year], [percentage]
B.Sc (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), [University], [year], [percentage]

ELIGIBILITY TESTS
CTET Paper II (Mathematics and Science), CBSE, [month year], Roll No. [number]
State TET: [State], [paper], [year], certificate no. [number] (only if you hold it)

If your teaching degree is still pending, say it: “B.Ed, final year, result expected [month year]”. The CTET bulletin’s own form lets candidates choose “Appearing in Final Exam”, but a school or a recruitment board will still verify the final certificate.

Classroom outcomes you can honestly state

Teacher resumes are full of lines like “achieved 100% results” that no one can check. A principal has seen them all. Better to write fewer, checkable lines. Here is a test for each line: could you show the mark sheet, circular or letter that backs it?

  • Say what you taught, to whom, for how long: “Taught Mathematics to classes 8 to 10 (CBSE, English medium), 3 sections, 2022 to present”.
  • Use results only with their source and scope: “Class 10 section B average moved from [X] to [Y] between the first and last unit tests of 2025-26” works if you hold the mark sheets. “Improved results” does not.
  • Name the duties you held: class teacher of 8B, exam-duty coordinator, house mistress, lab in-charge, timetable assistant.
  • Name the methods you used, not adjectives: activity-based lessons, worksheets, remedial classes after school, parent-teacher meetings each term.
  • Count only what you know: class size, number of sections, number of remedial sessions. If you do not know, leave the number out.
  • Credit teams honestly: “with the department, ran the science exhibition” is better than taking sole credit.

This person and these schools are fictional. “Class teacher of 12-B for 2023-24 and 2024-25” is an example of a small, checkable fact that works better than a claimed percentage. Use only a figure you can back up with a document.

Government vs private vs international school: what changes

The resume is the same document, with different emphasis. The paperwork behind it differs a lot.

RouteWhat the source asksWhat to stress on the resume
Central government (KVS, NVS)Marks, teaching degree, CTET paper, upper age limit; Tier-2 and interview; certificates verifiedQualification chain with marks and CTET paper; dates that match the certificates
State or Delhi government (DSSSB and similar)Essential qualification exactly as in the recruitment rules; CTET or State TET as applicable; documents at dossier stageExact certificate wording; dates; the test name and paper
Private CBSE or ICSE schoolWe found no single standard; the CBSE bulletin says CTET or a TET is mandatory for classes I to VIII teachers appointed from 6 March 2012 in CBSE schoolsSubject, classes, board, TET status, results you can document
International schoolWe read no primary sourceCurriculum you taught, years, training with organiser; follow the school’s advertisement
Sources: KVS and NVS Recruitment Notification 01/2025; DSSSB Advertisement 05/2025; CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin. Read 6 Oct 2026. Private and international rows are editorial: we read no primary rule for them.

For central posts, the resume is mostly a prop for the interview and document verification. The decisive document is the notification, and the decisive proof is your certificates. For private and international schools, the resume is the first filter, so the headline, subject and evidence matter more.

ATS keywords for school and recruiter portals

School groups, ed-tech companies and agencies often use portals that filter resumes. We could not find a published list of what any of them screens for, so the rule is simple: use the words in the job advertisement, spelled as written.

  • Post title as advertised: PRT, TGT, PGT, Primary Teacher, Subject Teacher, Assistant Professor.
  • Subject and level: Mathematics, English, Social Science, Physics, Class 9 to 12.
  • Qualification as advertised: B.Ed, D.El.Ed, B.El.Ed, M.Sc, M.A, with the awarding body.
  • Tests by name: CTET Paper I or II, State TET, UGC-NET.
  • Board and medium: CBSE, ICSE, State board, IB, Cambridge; English or Hindi medium.
  • Tools you really use, named as the advertisement names them: Google Classroom, smart board, Excel.

Keep the resume as plain text in a simple layout. Tables, text boxes and images can scramble when a system reads the file. Our ATS checker shows how a resume parses.

Common teacher resume mistakes

  • “CTET qualified” with no paper or year. Paper I and Paper II open different levels.
  • B.Ed buried on page two or written differently from the certificate.
  • No percentages when the advertisement sets a marks cut-off.
  • Writing “TET” when you hold only an application receipt. Say “appeared” or “result awaited”.
  • Vague duties. “Taught students” could describe anyone. Name the classes, subject and board.
  • Invented results. “100% result” with no document behind it is the easiest thing for a principal to question.
  • Dates that do not match your experience letter. Verification compares them.
  • Student names, photos or marks. A privacy problem on paper.
  • A skills list copied from the internet. Every item is a possible interview question.
  • An unexplained gap. One line (study, caregiving, relocation, TET preparation) is enough.
  • A photo-heavy, coloured or table-based layout that reads badly on a portal or phone.

Teacher resume FAQs

What is the best teacher resume format in India?

A one-column, plain layout with the level and subject in the headline, then summary, qualifications and TET, experience, skills and training. There is no official national format. Put the qualification chain and TET where they can be found in seconds.

Is the CTET certificate valid for life?

The CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin says the qualifying certificate for appointment is valid for life for all categories, and CBSE’s public notice of 21 June 2021 explains the change from seven years, with the wording “unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government”. For a State TET, check your own state’s notice.

What is the difference between CTET Paper I and Paper II?

Paper I is for those who want to teach classes I to V and Paper II is for classes VI to VIII. Someone who wants both levels sits both papers. Each has 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, and 60% or more is considered TET pass.

Where do I write B.Ed and CTET on a teacher resume?

On page one, in a qualifications block right after the summary for a fresher, or just after experience for a long-serving teacher. Write the degree as on your certificate with the university and year, and the CTET paper, year and roll number on its own line.

What should a fresher teacher put on a resume?

Qualifications first, then teaching practice and any tuition or volunteering, with classes, subject and what you did under a mentor. State honestly if your CTET or B.Ed result is awaited.

What does KVS ask from a PRT, TGT or PGT?

In Recruitment Notification 01/2025 we read, PRT needs 10+2 with at least 50% and an elementary teaching diploma or B.El.Ed plus CTET Paper I, TGT needs a bachelor’s with at least 50% and a B.Ed (or an integrated degree) plus CTET Paper II, and PGT needs a Master’s with at least 50% and a B.Ed. The notice sets upper ages of 30, 35 and 40. Read the current notification before applying, as rules and details change.

What is needed to become an Assistant Professor through UGC-NET?

The NTA bulletin for June 2025 says at least 55% in the Master’s (50% for OBC non-creamy layer, SC, ST, PwD and third-gender candidates) and notes no upper age limit for the Assistant Professor route. Recruitment is then governed by the rules of the university or college. Check the current bulletin.
